  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 0.25 teaspoon Cayenne pepper
  • 3 tablespoons Tomato paste, low sodium
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1 teaspoon Honey
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh cilantro, finely chopped
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper, freshly ground

Directions

Step 1

Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the finely chopped onion to the pan and sauté for 5 minutes, or until the onion is soft and translucent.

Step 3

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 4

Add paprika, ground cumin, turmeric, and cayenne pepper to the onion and garlic mixture. Stir continuously for about 1 minute to toast the spices slightly.

Step 8

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the freshly squeezed lemon juice and honey.

Step 9

Season with freshly ground black pepper to taste.

Step 10

Pour the sauce into a bowl or jar and let it cool. Stir in the finely chopped fresh cilantro just before serving.
