Ingredients

  • 180 grams All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Orange zest
  • 120 milliliters Fresh orange juice
  • 120 grams Low-fat plain yogurt
  • 2 large Egg whites
  • 100 grams Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoons Canola oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir in the orange zest and set aside.

Step 3

In a separate large bowl, whisk together the orange juice, low-fat plain yogurt, and granulated sugar until the sugar is dissolved.

Step 4

Add the egg whites, vanilla extract, and canola oil to the wet mixture, and whisk until fully combined.

Step 5

Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients using a spatula, being careful not to overmix. Mix just until no streaks of flour remain.

Step 6

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth out the top with the spatula.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 28-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Step 8

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 9

Once fully cooled, serve the cake as is, or dust with a light sprinkle of powdered sugar for decoration, if desired.
