Ingredients

  • 500 g Lean ground beef (95% lean)
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp Fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 large Egg whites
  • 50 g Breadcrumbs (whole wheat, if preferred)
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable oil (for cooking, use sparingly)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the lean ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, and chopped parsley.

Step 2

Add the egg whites, breadcrumbs, Dijon mustard, salt, and ground black pepper to the bowl. Mix thoroughly with clean hands or a large spoon until evenly combined.

Step 3

Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, approximately 2 cm thick.

Step 4

Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil, spreading it evenly to coat the surface.

Step 5

Place the patties into the skillet, ensuring they do not overlap or overcrowd the pan. Brown each side for about 2-3 minutes to develop a crust.

Step 6

Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet with a lid, and continue cooking the patties for an additional 10-12 minutes, turning them occasionally to ensure they cook evenly. Check that the internal temperature of each patty reaches at least 160°F (71°C).

Step 7

Once cooked through, transfer the Frikadellen to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.

Step 8

Serve warm alongside traditional accompaniments such as boiled potatoes, a side salad, or mustard for dipping. Enjoy your healthy, low-fat Frikadellen!
