Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups Whole wheat flour
  • 0.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast
  • 0.75 cups Warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 6 ounces Low-fat turkey sausage
  • 1 cup Low-fat shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.5 cup Pizza sauce
  • 6 leaves Fresh basil leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 teaspoons Garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Cornmeal (for dusting)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warm water. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, stirring until a dough forms.

Step 3

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for 15 minutes.

Step 4

While the dough is resting, preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet in the oven to heat.

Step 5

Cook the low-fat turkey sausage in a nonstick skillet over medium heat until browned and cooked through. Crumble the sausage into bite-sized pieces. Set aside.

Step 6

On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a thin, 12-inch circle. Sprinkle a sheet of parchment paper with cornmeal and transfer the dough onto it.

Step 7

Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle the Italian seasoning and garlic powder over the sauce.

Step 8

Top the pizza with the cooked turkey sausage, shredded mozzarella cheese, and fresh basil leaves.

Step 9

Carefully transfer the parchment paper and pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

Step 10

Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for 2-3 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy your low-fat thin crust sausage pizza!
