Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground chicken (lean, 93% lean or higher)
  • 2 large Egg whites
  • 50 grams Breadcrumbs (whole wheat or panko)
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon Cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0 Nonstick cooking spray
  • 4 units Whole wheat burger buns
  • 4 units Lettuce leaves
  • 1 large Tomato (sliced)
  • 100 grams Low-fat Greek yogurt (for sauce, optional)
  • 2 teaspoons Hot sauce (for sauce, optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, egg whites, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, ground cumin, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.

Step 2

Mix the ingredients thoroughly using clean hands or a spatula until evenly combined.

Step 3

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a burger patty, about 1 cm thick.

Step 4

Preheat a nonstick skillet or grill pan over medium heat. Spray it lightly with nonstick cooking spray.

Step 5

Cook the patties for 5-6 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 75°C (165°F).

Step 6

While the patties are cooking, prepare the buns: slice them in half and toast lightly, if desired.

Step 7

Optional: To make a simple spicy yogurt sauce, mix the low-fat Greek yogurt with hot sauce in a small bowl and set aside.

Step 8

Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf and a slice or two of tomato on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Top with the cooked chicken patty, a dollop of yogurt sauce (if using), and the top half of the bun.

Step 9

Serve immediately and enjoy your low-fat spicy chicken burgers!
