Ingredients

  • 4 whole Eggs
  • 4 cups Water
  • 1 piece Cinnamon stick
  • 1 piece Star anise
  • 1 teaspoon Black peppercorns
  • 0.5 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Red chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh parsley or cilantro (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Place the eggs in a medium-sized saucepan and cover them with 4 cups of cold water.

Step 2

Add the cinnamon stick, star anise, black peppercorns, turmeric powder, salt, and red chili flakes (if using) to the water.

Step 3

Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. Once it begins to boil, reduce the heat to medium-low and let the eggs simmer gently for 9-10 minutes.

Step 4

While the eggs are cooking, prepare a bowl of ice water.

Step 5

Once the eggs are done cooking, carefully remove them from the spiced water using a slotted spoon and transfer them immediately to the ice water bath to stop the cooking process.

Step 6

Let the eggs sit in the ice water for 5 minutes, then gently crack the shells and peel the eggs.

Step 7

Serve the peeled eggs warm or at room temperature, garnished with freshly chopped parsley or cilantro, if desired. For additional spice, sprinkle a pinch of chili flakes on top.
