Ingredients

  • 2 Large onions
  • 1 cup Besan (gram flour)
  • 0.25 cup Rice flour
  • 0.25 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 0.5 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.75 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoons Oil

Directions

Step 1

Peel the onions and slice them into thin rings, about 1/4 inch thick.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine besan, rice flour, baking soda, red chili powder, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, and salt.

Step 3

Gradually add water to the flour mixture, whisking continuously to avoid lumps, until you get a smooth batter. The batter should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon but not too runny.

Step 4

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Use a brush to evenly spread the oil across the pan.

Step 5

Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it's well coated, and place them on the heated pan.

Step 6

Cook the onion bajjis on one side for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Flip and cook the other side for another 3-4 minutes.

Step 7

During cooking, occasionally press down lightly with a spatula to ensure even cooking.

Step 8

Once cooked, remove the bajjis from the pan and place them on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.

Step 9

Serve the Low Fat Onion Bajji hot with your choice of chutney or ketchup.
