Ingredients

  • 1 cup yellow moong dal
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 1 inch piece ginger
  • 1 whole green chili
  • 0.5 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 0.75 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cooking spray or oil

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the yellow moong dal under running water until the water runs clear. Soak the dal in enough water to cover it for 2 hours.

Step 2

Drain the soaked dal and transfer it to a blender. Add 0.5 cup water, ginger, green chili, and cumin seeds.

Step 3

Blend the mixture until smooth and lump-free. The batter should be of pouring consistency, similar to pancake batter. Add salt and mix well.

Step 4

Heat a non-stick skillet or tawa over medium heat. Lightly grease it with cooking spray or oil.

Step 5

Pour a ladleful of batter onto the center of the skillet and quickly spread it outwards in circular motions to form a thin dosa.

Step 6

Cook the dosa on medium heat until the edges begin to lift and the underside is golden brown, approximately 3-4 minutes.

Step 7

Flip the dosa and cook the other side for another minute until slightly golden.

Step 8

Remove from the skillet and repeat with the remaining batter, adjusting heat as necessary.

Step 9

Serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
