Ingredients

  • 4 cups Mixed berries (fresh or frozen, thawed and drained if using frozen)
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • 1 cup Old-fashioned oats
  • 0.5 cup Whole wheat flour
  • 0.25 cup Brown sugar, lightly packed
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 0.25 cup Almonds, sliced
  • 0.25 cup Unsweetened applesauce

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

In a large bowl, combine the mixed berries, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice. Mix gently until the berries are evenly coated. Let the mixture sit while you prepare the topping.

Step 3

In another bowl, mix together the oats, whole wheat flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, sliced almonds, and a pinch of salt.

Step 4

Add the unsweetened applesauce to the oat mixture. Stir until the mixture forms a crumbly texture and all the dry ingredients are moistened.

Step 5

Pour the berry mixture into an 8-inch square baking dish, spreading it evenly.

Step 6

Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the berries.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the berry filling is bubbly.

Step 8

Allow the crisp to cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Step 9

Serve warm with a dollop of low-fat yogurt or frozen yogurt, if desired.
