  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup Unsweetened applesauce
  • 0.25 cup Pure maple syrup
  • 0.5 cup Low-fat buttermilk
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon Maple extract
  • 0.5 cup Powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Pure maple syrup (for glaze)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a donut pan.

Step 2

In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.

Step 3

In another bowl, combine the applesauce, maple syrup, buttermilk, egg, vanilla extract, and maple extract. Mix until well combined.

Step 4

Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Avoid overmixing to prevent dense donuts.

Step 5

Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each section about three-quarters full.

Step 6

Bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the donuts spring back when lightly touched.

Step 7

Remove the donuts from the pan and allow them to cool on a wire rack.

Step 8

To make the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar and maple syrup in a small bowl until smooth.

Step 9

Once the donuts are cool, dip the tops into the glaze and return them to the wire rack for the glaze to set.

Step 10

Enjoy your low fat maple donuts fresh or store them in an airtight container for up to two days.
