Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2.25 teaspoons Instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 3 tablespoons Honey
  • 1 cup Low-fat buttermilk
  • 0.25 cup Warm water
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter (melted and cooled)
  • 0 N/A Nonstick cooking spray
  • 1 large Egg (lightly beaten, for egg wash)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, instant yeast, and salt.

Step 2

In a separate medium bowl, mix the honey, low-fat buttermilk, warm water, and melted butter until well combined.

Step 3

Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring with a wooden spoon or silicone spatula until a sticky dough forms.

Step 4

Gradually add the remaining 1.5 cups of flour, a little at a time, until the dough is soft but not sticky. You may not need all the flour.

Step 5

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Step 6

Lightly grease a clean bowl with nonstick cooking spray. Place the dough ball into the bowl, turning it to coat the surface in oil. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap.

Step 7

Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free area for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Step 8

Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a smooth ball.

Step 9

Place the dough balls onto a greased or parchment-lined 9x13 inch baking dish, spacing them evenly apart.

Step 10

Cover the baking dish with a towel and let the rolls rise again for 30 minutes, or until they puff up and fill the dish.

Step 11

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 12

Brush the tops of the rolls with the beaten egg using a pastry brush.

Step 13

Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the rolls sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Step 14

Remove the rolls from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
