Ingredients

  • 500 g Lean ground beef (90% lean)
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 cups Low-sodium beef broth
  • 0.5 cup Whole wheat bread crumbs
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 2 tbsp Cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp Water
  • 2 tbsp Fresh parsley (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Finely chop the onion and mince the garlic cloves.

Step 2

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, bread crumbs, and 1 tsp of Worcestershire sauce. Mix until well combined. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into oval patties.

Step 3

Heat the olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they are browned and cooked through. Transfer the patties to a plate and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, pour in the beef broth and the remaining 2 tsp of Worcestershire sauce, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Bring it to a simmer.

Step 5

In a small bowl, mix together the cornstarch and water to form a slurry. Gradually whisk the slurry into the simmering broth until the gravy thickens, which should take about 2-3 minutes.

Step 6

Reduce the heat to low, return the patties to the skillet, and spoon the gravy over them. Simmer for another 5 minutes to let the flavors meld.

Step 7

Garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve hot with your choice of sides such as mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables.
