Ingredients

  • 14 oz extra firm tofu
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp paprika
  • 0.25 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 0 non-stick cooking spray

Directions

Step 1

Drain the extra firm tofu and pat it dry with paper towels. Press the tofu block between paper towels or a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy pan or cutting board on top. Allow it to press for at least 15 minutes to remove excess water.

Step 2

Cut the pressed tofu into 1-inch cubes and set aside in a mixing bowl.

Step 3

In a small bowl, combine soy sauce and sesame oil. Pour the mixture evenly over the tofu cubes and gently toss to coat all sides. Allow to marinate for about 10 minutes.

Step 4

In another small bowl, mix together the cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper if using.

Step 5

Sprinkle the cornstarch mixture over the marinated tofu cubes and toss gently until each piece is thoroughly coated.

Step 6

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Lightly spray the lined baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray.

Step 7

Place the coated tofu cubes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Give them a light spray with the non-stick cooking spray to help them crisp up.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Then, carefully flip each tofu piece using a spatula and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cubes are golden brown and crispy.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. These crispy tofu cubes are great as a standalone snack or as a protein-packed topping for salads and stir-fry dishes.
