Ingredients

  • 200 grams low-fat cream cheese
  • 50 grams sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 8 sheets phyllo dough sheets
  • 120 grams unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 large egg white
  • 0.5 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 30 grams powdered sugar

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, combine low-fat cream cheese, sugar, vanilla extract, lemon juice, and egg yolk. Mix until smooth and creamy.

Step 3

Lay one phyllo dough sheet on a clean surface and lightly brush with unsweetened applesauce. Top with a second sheet, and continue layering and brushing until all 8 sheets are used.

Step 4

Cut the layered phyllo sheets into 8 equal rectangles.

Step 5

Place a tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture onto the center of each rectangle.

Step 6

Fold the corners of each rectangle towards the center to cover the filling, pressing gently to seal.

Step 7

Transfer the filled pastries to the prepared baking sheet.

In a small bowl, whisk the egg white and brush it over the top of each danish. Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon over each pastry.

Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and crispy.
