Ingredients

  • 250 grams Whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon Active dry yeast
  • 175 ml Warm water
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 200 grams Tomato sauce (no added sugar)
  • 100 grams Low-fat mozzarella cheese
  • 10 pieces Fresh basil leaves
  • 100 grams Cherry tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano
  • 0.5 teaspoon Red pepper flakes

Directions

Step 1

In a small mixing bowl, combine the warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Stir until dissolved, and let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until the mixture starts to froth.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, mix the whole wheat flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.

Step 3

Stir until the mixture begins to come together, then knead it on a lightly floured surface for about 7-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 4

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

Step 5

Preheat your oven to 220°C (428°F). Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.

Step 6

Transfer the rolled-out dough to a lightly greased pizza pan or baking sheet.

Step 7

Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the surface of the dough, leaving a half-inch border around the edges.

Step 8

Sprinkle the low-fat mozzarella cheese over the tomato sauce.

Step 9

Slice the cherry tomatoes in half and distribute them evenly over the cheese.

Step 10

Tear the fresh basil leaves and scatter them on top, followed by a sprinkle of oregano and red pepper flakes.

Step 11

Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden-brown and the cheese has melted.

Step 12

Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing.

Step 13

Serve hot and enjoy your low-fat Italian pizza!
