Ingredients

  • 12 ounces Lean beef sirloin
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 Medium onion
  • 1 Green bell pepper
  • 4 Low-fat provolone cheese slices
  • 4 Whole wheat sub rolls
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt

Directions

Step 1

Place the beef sirloin in the freezer for about 30 minutes until slightly firm. This makes it easier to slice the beef thinly.

Step 2

While the beef is chilling, thinly slice the onion and green bell pepper. Set aside.

Step 3

Remove the beef from the freezer and slice it as thinly as possible against the grain to ensure tenderness.

Step 4

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion and green bell pepper and sauté until they are softened, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 5

Add the sliced beef to the skillet with garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 5 minutes.

Step 6

While the beef mixture is cooking, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 7

Once the beef is cooked, divide the mixture into four equal parts in the skillet. Place a slice of low-fat provolone cheese on top of each portion and let it melt slightly.

Step 8

Slice each whole wheat sub roll, leaving one side intact. Place one portion of the beef, pepper, and onion mixture with melted cheese into each roll.

Step 9

Fold each roll tightly to encase the filling. Place them on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 5 minutes to warm the bread and slightly melt the cheese.

Step 10

Remove from the oven, slice each sandwich in half, and serve immediately.
