Ingredients

  • 1 pound Lean ground beef (95% lean)
  • 4 slices Reduced-fat sharp cheddar cheese
  • 4 Whole wheat hamburger buns
  • 4 Fresh lettuce leaves
  • 1 large, sliced Tomato
  • 0.5 small, thinly sliced Red onion
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 as needed Non-stick cooking spray

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the lean ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until well combined.

Step 2

Divide the seasoned beef mixture into four equal parts. Shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick.

Step 3

Spray a large non-stick skillet with cooking spray and heat over medium-high heat.

Step 4

Place the beef patties in the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).

Step 5

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of reduced-fat cheddar cheese on each patty to melt.

Step 6

While the patties are cooking, toast the whole wheat buns lightly on a separate dry skillet or in a toaster.

Step 7

Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of the bun, followed by the cheeseburger patty, a slice of tomato, a few slices of red onion, and the top half of the bun.

Step 8

Serve immediately while still hot for the best flavor.
