Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef (93% lean)
  • 8 pieces whole wheat slider buns
  • 2 tablespoons dijon mustard
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 pieces low-fat cheddar cheese slices
  • 8 leaves lettuce
  • 1 large tomato
  • 0.5 small red onion

Directions

Step 1

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the lean ground beef, dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Step 2

Divide the meat mixture into 8 equal portions and shape each one into a patty about the size of the slider buns.

Step 3

Preheat a non-stick skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat.

Step 4

Place the patties on the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F, ensuring they are fully cooked.

Step 5

While the patties are cooking, slice the tomato into 8 thin rounds and the red onion into thin rings.

Step 6

During the last minute of cooking the beef patties, place half a slice of low-fat cheddar cheese on each patty and cover the skillet to allow the cheese to melt.

Step 7

Once cooked, remove the patties from the skillet and let them rest for a couple of minutes.

Step 8

Assemble the sliders by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each whole wheat slider bun, followed by a beef patty, a slice of tomato, and a few rings of red onion.

Step 9

Top each slider with the bun top and secure with a toothpick if necessary.

Step 10

Serve immediately and enjoy your low-fat classic beef sliders.
