Ingredients

  • 1 lb Lean Ground Beef (93% lean)
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black Pepper
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 4 slices Low-Fat Cheddar Cheese Slices
  • 4 Whole Wheat Hamburger Buns
  • 4 leaves Romaine Lettuce Leaves
  • 1 Tomato
  • 0.5 Red Onion
  • 4 tbsp Dijon Mustard
  • 4 tbsp Ketchup

Directions

Step 1

Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the lean ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently to combine.

Step 3

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick.

Step 4

Place the patties on the preheated grill and cook for approximately 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).

Step 5

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of low-fat cheddar cheese on each patty and allow it to melt.

Step 6

While the patties are cooking, slice the tomato into thin rounds and thinly slice the red onion.

Step 7

Toast the whole wheat hamburger buns on the grill for about 1 minute, cut side down, until lightly golden.

Step 8

Assemble the burgers by spreading 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard and 1 tablespoon of ketchup on each bun.

Step 9

Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, then top with a cheesy burger patty, a slice of tomato, and a few rings of red onion.

Step 10

Cover with the top half of the bun, serve immediately, and enjoy your low-fat classic American cheeseburger.
