Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup Unsweetened applesauce
  • 0.25 cup Honey
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Semi-sweet chocolate chips (reduced fat)
  • 2 tablespoons Non-fat milk

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a medium-sized bowl, sift together the whole wheat flour, baking powder, and salt.

Step 3

In another bowl, mix the unsweetened applesauce, honey, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Step 4

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined to form a dough.

Step 5

Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie.

Step 6

Flatten each ball slightly with the palm of your hand.

Step 7

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.

Step 8

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 9

While the cookies are cooling, prepare the chocolate coating by adding the semi-sweet chocolate chips and non-fat milk to a heatproof bowl.

Step 10

Melt the chocolate mixture over a saucepan of simmering water (double boiler method) or carefully microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring until completely melted and smooth.

Step 11

Once the cookies are cool, dip each cookie halfway into the melted chocolate, allowing any excess to drip off before placing them back on the parchment-lined sheet.

Step 12

Let the chocolate set by leaving the cookies at room temperature or refrigerating them for faster setting.

Step 13

Serve the cookies once the chocolate has fully set and enjoy your low-fat treat!
