Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.75 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 0.5 cup low-fat plain yogurt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.25 cup mini chocolate chips

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Step 3

In another bowl, mix the unsweetened applesauce, low-fat plain yogurt, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth and evenly combined.

Step 4

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring gently with a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix as this can make the bread tough.

Step 5

Gently fold in the mini chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Step 6

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top with the spatula.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.

Step 8

Allow the chocolate bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 9

Slice and serve the bread warm, or let it cool completely before storing it in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
