Ingredients

  • 1 sheet whole wheat puff pastry
  • 100 grams reduced-fat cheddar cheese
  • 1 large egg white
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

Lightly dust your work surface with the all-purpose flour.

Step 3

Place the whole wheat puff pastry sheet on the floured surface and gently roll it out to smoothen any folds.

Step 4

In a small bowl, whisk the egg white until slightly frothy. This will be used to brush over the pastry.

Step 5

Sprinkle the grated reduced-fat cheddar cheese evenly over half of the pastry sheet.

Step 6

Sprinkle the dried oregano, black pepper, and salt over the cheese layer.

Step 7

Fold the other half of the pastry over the cheese-covered side, pressing gently to sandwich the cheese and spices.

Step 8

Using a sharp knife, cut the pastry into strips approximately 1 inch wide.

Step 9

Carefully twist each strip a few times and place them on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring some space between each twist.

Step 10

Brush the tops of the twists lightly with the beaten egg white for a golden finish.

Step 11

Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the twists are puffed and golden brown.

Step 12

Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
