Ingredients

  • 500 g Lean ground turkey
  • 4 slices Turkey bacon
  • 120 g Reduced-fat cheddar cheese
  • 4 pieces Whole wheat burger buns
  • 4 pieces Lettuce leaves
  • 1 large Tomato
  • 0.5 medium Red onion
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 4 tablespoons Low-fat mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons Mustard

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your grill or a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.

Step 2

In a bowl, combine the ground turkey, salt, and pepper, and mix gently until just combined.

Step 3

Divide the turkey mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a burger patty.

Step 4

Cook the turkey bacon slices in the skillet over medium heat until crispy, about 5 minutes. Remove and set aside on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess fat.

Step 5

Grill or cook the turkey burger patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

Step 6

Place a slice of reduced-fat cheddar cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to allow it to melt slightly.

Step 7

While the patties are cooking, slice the tomato and onion into thin rings.

Step 8

Toast the whole wheat burger buns lightly on the grill or in the skillet until they are golden brown.

Step 9

To assemble the burgers, spread a tablespoon of low-fat mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun.

Step 10

Place a lettuce leaf on top of the mayonnaise, followed by the cheesy turkey patty.

Step 11

Add a slice of crispy turkey bacon on top of the patty.

Step 12

Layer with a couple of tomato and onion rings, then finish with a drizzle of mustard and the top half of the bun.

Step 13

Serve immediately and enjoy your low-fat cheese and bacon burger!
