Ingredients

  • 1 lb Pork tenderloin
  • 2 tbsp Low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp Hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 1 tbsp Rice wine
  • 1 tsp Five-spice powder
  • 1 clove Minced garlic
  • 1 tsp Minced ginger
  • 1 drop Red food coloring (optional)
  • 2 tbsp Water

Directions

Step 1

Trim any visible fat from the pork tenderloin and set aside.

Step 2

In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice wine, five-spice powder, minced garlic, minced ginger, and (if using) red food coloring. Mix until well blended.

Step 3

Place the pork tenderloin in a resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the pork and ensure it is completely covered. Seal the bag or cover the dish.

Step 4

Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, turning occasionally to allow even flavor absorption.

Step 5

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 6

Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top.

Step 7

Remove the pork from the marinade, reserving the marinade for basting. Place the pork on the wire rack.

Step 8

Roast the pork in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

Step 9

Meanwhile, pour the reserved marinade into a small saucepan, add 2 tablespoons of water, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes to kill any bacteria.

Step 10

After 30 minutes of roasting, baste the pork with the cooked marinade. Continue to roast for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the internal temperature of the pork reaches 145°F (63°C).

Step 11

Once cooked, remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

Step 12

Slice the pork into thin pieces and serve as desired. Enjoy your flavorful, low-fat Char Siew!
