Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups Rice flour
  • 0.5 cup Whole wheat flour
  • 0.5 cup Low-fat yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Asafoetida (hing)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 0.75 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 0 Cooking spray

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine rice flour, whole wheat flour, sesame seeds, cumin seeds, red chili powder, asafoetida, salt, turmeric powder, and baking soda.

Step 3

Add low-fat yogurt and olive oil to the dry ingredients and mix well to form a crumbly texture.

Step 4

Gradually add water, a little at a time, and knead the mixture into a soft, pliable dough. The dough should not be too sticky; if necessary, adjust the water accordingly.

Step 5

Fill the chakli maker with the dough. Grease the inside of the maker lightly with cooking spray to prevent sticking.

Step 6

Press the dough out onto the prepared baking sheet, forming spirals or coils, ensuring they are evenly spaced out.

Step 7

Lightly spray the chaklis with cooking spray to help them brown.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until they turn golden brown and are crisp to the touch.

Step 9

Once baked, remove from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack. The chaklis will crisp up further as they cool.

Step 10

Store the cooled chaklis in an airtight container for up to a week.
