Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • 4 whole wheat hamburger buns
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 ripe tomato
  • 4 fresh lettuce leaves
  • 4 red onion slices
  • 2 tablespoons dijon mustard
  • 1 as needed nonstick cooking spray

Directions

Step 1

In a medium bowl, combine the lean ground turkey, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix just until combined without overworking the meat.

Step 2

Divide the meat mixture into four equal portions and shape each one into a patty about 1/2 inch thick.

Step 3

Preheat a nonstick skillet or grill pan over medium heat. Lightly coat the surface with nonstick cooking spray.

Step 4

Cook the turkey patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C). Once cooked, remove them from the pan and let them rest.

Step 5

While the patties are cooking, slice the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a small bowl. Add the lime juice and mash together until you achieve a slightly chunky consistency. Set aside.

Step 6

Slice the tomato into four thick slices and prepare the buns by toasting them lightly if desired.

Step 7

To assemble each burger, spread about 1/2 tablespoon of Dijon mustard on the bottom half of each bun.

Step 8

Place a cooked turkey patty on top of the mustard, followed by a slice of tomato, a leaf of lettuce, and a slice of red onion.

Step 9

Spread a quarter of the avocado mixture on the inside of the top bun and place it on top of the burger.

Step 10

Serve the Low Fat California Burgers immediately and enjoy the fresh, vibrant flavors.
