Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup Unsweetened applesauce
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 3 Large egg whites
  • 0.5 cup Low-fat milk
  • 4 ounces Light cream cheese, softened
  • 0.5 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1 cup Semisweet chocolate chips
  • 12 Cake pop sticks

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly spray an 8-inch round cake pan with nonstick cooking spray.

Step 2

In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3

In a separate medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the unsweetened applesauce, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix well.

Step 4

Add the egg whites to the wet mixture and beat until well combined.

Step 5

Gradually add the dry ingredients alternately with the low-fat milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.

Step 6

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for about 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 7

Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

Step 8

Once cooled, crumble the cake into a large mixing bowl.

Step 9

In a separate bowl, beat the softened light cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.

Step 10

Add the cream cheese mixture to the crumbled cake and mix until the mixture holds together well.

Step 11

Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Insert a cake pop stick into each ball.

Step 12

Chill the cake pops in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or until firm.

Step 13

Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth and melted.

Step 14

Dip each cake pop into the melted chocolate, ensuring it is fully coated. Allow any excess chocolate to drip off.

Step 15

Optional: Decorate with sprinkles or other toppings while the chocolate is still wet.

Step 16

Place the chocolate-coated cake pops back on the parchment-lined baking sheet and let them set in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes before serving.
