Ingredients

  • 2 cups Whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Low-fat plain yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 0.5 cup Warm water

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well to ensure the leavening agents are evenly distributed.

Step 2

Add in the low-fat plain yogurt and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Start mixing with a spatula or your hands until the mixture starts to come together.

Step 3

Gradually add warm water a little at a time, kneading until a soft and elastic dough forms. The dough should not be too sticky or too dry.

Step 4

Once the dough is smooth, cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 15 minutes. This allows the gluten to relax, making it easier to roll out the dough.

Step 5

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C), and place a baking stone or an inverted baking tray inside to heat as well.

Step 6

Divide the rested dough into 8 equal portions and roll each into a ball. Using a rolling pin, flatten each ball into a circle, approximately 6 inches in diameter.

Step 7

Once your oven has preheated, carefully place the rolled out Bhatures onto the hot baking stone or tray using a spatula.

Step 8

Bake the Bhatures for approximately 5-7 minutes, or until they puff up and have light golden spots on them.

Step 9

If desired, lightly brush with melted butter or low-fat spread before serving to enhance flavor.

Step 10

Serve hot with your favorite chole (chickpea curry) or any Indian curry of your choice.
