Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups Whole wheat flour
  • 0.5 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup Plain yogurt (low-fat)
  • 0.25 cup Warm water
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 0 Oil spray

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well to evenly distribute the dry ingredients.

Step 2

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the plain yogurt and warm water. Mix together until the ingredients form a dough.

Step 3

Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Add a little water if necessary to make the dough pliable, but it should not be sticky.

Step 4

Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes. This resting period allows the gluten to develop, making the bhaturas soft and fluffy.

Step 5

After the resting time, divide the dough into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a smooth ball.

Step 6

On a lightly floured surface, roll out each ball into a circle about 5-6 inches in diameter.

Step 7

Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Lightly spray with oil spray to coat the surface.

Step 8

Place a rolled-out bhatura onto the skillet. Cook for about 2 minutes on one side, until small bubbles begin to form.

Step 9

Flip the bhatura and lightly press down with a spatula. Cook for another 2 minutes until it is golden brown and puffed up.

Step 10

Remove from the skillet and keep warm in a clean kitchen towel. Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.

Step 11

Serve the Low Fat Bhaturas hot with your choice of curry or chutney.
