Ingredients

  • 1 cup Besan (Gram Flour)
  • 0.75 cup Water
  • 0.5 cup, finely chopped Onion
  • 0.5 cup, finely chopped Tomato
  • 1 unit, finely chopped Green Chili
  • 2 tablespoons, chopped Fresh Coriander
  • 0.5 teaspoon, minced Ginger
  • 0.25 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Oil

Directions

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, sift the besan to remove any lumps and ensure a smooth batter.

Step 2

Gradually add water to the besan while stirring to make a smooth, lump-free batter. The consistency should be similar to pancake batter.

Step 3

Add finely chopped onion, tomato, green chili, fresh coriander, minced ginger, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, salt, and black pepper to the batter. Mix well to combine all the ingredients evenly.

Step 4

Heat a non-stick skillet or a flat pan over medium heat and lightly grease it with a few drops of oil using a brush or a paper towel.

Step 5

Pour a ladleful of batter onto the heated pan and spread it evenly in a circular motion to form a thin pancake.

Step 6

Cook the cheela on medium heat for about 2-3 minutes. Drizzle a few drops of oil on the edges if needed.

Step 7

Once the edges start lifting slightly and the surface looks cooked, flip the cheela using a spatula and cook the other side for another 2-3 minutes until it turns golden brown.

Step 8

Remove the cooked cheela from the pan and repeat the process with the remaining batter. Serve hot with chutney or yogurt.
