Ingredients

  • 200 grams Cabbage, shredded
  • 1 medium Carrot, julienned
  • 100 grams Bean sprouts
  • 2 stalks Scallions, thinly sliced
  • 100 grams All-purpose flour
  • 50 grams Cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon White pepper
  • 150 milliliters Water
  • 3 tablespoons Vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

Start by preparing the vegetables: shred 200 grams of cabbage, julienne 1 medium carrot, rinse 100 grams of bean sprouts, and slice 2 stalks of scallions thinly.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, and baking powder. Mix well.

Step 3

Add the minced garlic, salt, and white pepper to the dry ingredients and mix again to ensure even distribution.

Step 4

Slowly add 150 milliliters of water to the flour mixture, stirring continuously, until you have a smooth batter.

Step 5

Fold in the prepared vegetables (cabbage, carrot, bean sprouts, and scallions) into the batter, mixing until well-coated.

Step 6

Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat.

Step 7

Spoon a portion of the batter into the pan, spreading it into a circle about 2 inches in diameter. You should be able to cook multiple fritters at once, depending on the size of your pan.

Step 8

Cook each fritter for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crisp. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning.

Step 9

Remove the cooked fritters from the pan and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 10

Repeat the process, adding more oil to the pan as needed, until all the batter is used.

Step 11

Serve the low fat bakwan warm, optionally with a dipping sauce of your choice.
