Ingredients

  • 250 grams Whole wheat flour
  • 100 grams Low-fat plain yogurt
  • 50 grams Unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 50 milliliters Water
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Black seeds (kalonji)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).

Step 2

In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, baking powder, and salt.

Step 3

Melt the unsalted butter gently in a microwave or on a stovetop.

Step 4

Add the melted butter to the flour mixture and mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 5

In a separate bowl, whisk together the low-fat yogurt, sugar, and water until well combined.

Step 6

Pour the yogurt mixture into the dry ingredients and mix together until a dough forms. The dough should be soft but not sticky.

Step 7

Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and roll each into a smooth ball.

Step 8

Flatten each ball slightly and use a rolling pin to roll it into a circle about 0.5 cm thick and 10 cm in diameter.

Step 9

Sprinkle sesame seeds and black seeds on top of each rolled-out dough and press gently to ensure they stick.

Step 10

Place the rolled dough discs onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Step 11

Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes, or until the Bakar Khani are golden brown and crispy.

Step 12

Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving as a delightful snack or accompaniment to tea.
