Ingredients

  • 250 grams Reduced-fat puff pastry
  • 100 grams Low-fat bacon
  • 100 grams Reduced-fat cheddar cheese
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 stalks Green onions
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

Roll out the reduced-fat puff pastry on a lightly floured surface until it’s about 3mm thick. Cut into four equal squares.

Step 3

Finely chop the low-fat bacon and green onions. Grate the reduced-fat cheddar cheese.

Step 4

In a non-stick skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess fat.

Step 5

In a mixing bowl, combine cooked bacon, grated cheese, chopped green onions, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until combined.

Step 6

Beat the egg in a small bowl. Brush the edges of the pastry squares lightly with the beaten egg to help seal.

Step 7

Place a generous spoonful of the filling mixture in the center of each pastry square.

Step 8

Fold each square diagonally to form a triangle and press the edges to seal tightly. Use a fork to crimp the edges if desired.

Step 9

Brush the tops of each turnover with the remaining beaten egg to give a golden glaze.

Step 10

Place the turnovers on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

Step 11

Remove from oven and let cool slightly on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy your low fat bacon and cheese turnovers warm.
