Ingredients

  • 2 pounds baby red potatoes
  • 1.5 pounds smoked sausage
  • 6 ears corn on the cob (cut into thirds)
  • 2 pounds raw shell-on shrimp (preferably large or jumbo)
  • 0.5 cup Old Bay seasoning
  • 2 lemon (halved)
  • 10 cups water
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter (optional, for serving)
  • 1 bottle hot sauce (optional, for serving)

Directions

Step 1

In a large stockpot, add 10 cups of water, Old Bay seasoning, and the halved lemons. Squeeze the juice from the lemons into the pot before dropping them in. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.

Step 2

Once boiling, add the baby red potatoes to the pot. Reduce the heat to medium and let them cook for 10 minutes, or until they begin to soften.

Step 3

Add the smoked sausage, cut into 1-inch pieces, to the pot. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Step 4

Next, add the corn on the cob pieces to the pot and cook for another 5 minutes.

Step 5

Finally, add the raw shrimp to the pot. Stir gently and cook for 3-4 minutes, or until the shrimp turn pink and opaque. Be careful not to overcook the shrimp.

Step 6

Turn off the heat and carefully drain the pot, discarding the liquid. Transfer the cooked ingredients to a large serving platter or spread them over a clean table lined with newspaper for a traditional Low Country Boil presentation.

Step 7

Serve hot with melted butter and hot sauce on the side, if desired. Enjoy this Savannah-style feast with family and friends!
