Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Red potatoes
  • 6 ears Corn on the cob
  • 1.5 pounds Smoked sausage
  • 2 pounds Large raw shrimp (shell-on)
  • 0.5 cup Seafood boil seasoning (e.g., Old Bay)
  • 1 large Onion
  • 6 whole Garlic cloves
  • 2 whole Lemons
  • 0.25 cup Butter (optional for serving)
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley (optional for garnish)
  • 6 quarts Water

Directions

Step 1

Fill a large stockpot with 6 quarts of water and bring it to a boil over high heat.

Step 2

Add the seafood boil seasoning, onion (quartered), garlic cloves (smashed but whole), and lemons (halved and squeezed into the pot) to the boiling water. Stir well.

Step 3

Lower the heat to medium-high and add the red potatoes. Cook for 10-12 minutes or until the potatoes are just beginning to soften.

Step 4

While the potatoes cook, cut the corn cobs into thirds and the smoked sausage into 1-inch slices.

Step 5

Add the sausage and corn to the pot. Cook for another 7-8 minutes or until the corn is tender.

Step 6

Add the shrimp to the pot and cook for 2-4 minutes or until the shrimp turn pink and are cooked through.

Step 7

Remove the pot from the heat and carefully drain the water. Use a large slotted spoon or strainer to remove the boiled ingredients.

Step 8

Serve the Low Country Boil family-style by spreading everything onto a clean, newspaper-lined table or large platter.

Step 9

Optionally, melt butter and drizzle it over the boil or serve it as a dipping sauce. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
