Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground pork
  • 200 grams Shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 large Egg whites
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Grated ginger
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 stalks Green onions, finely chopped
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 20 leaves Cabbage leaves
  • 1 tablespoon Rice vinegar

Directions

Step 1

Begin by finely chopping the shrimp and combining it with the ground pork in a large mixing bowl.

Step 2

To the bowl, add in egg whites, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, chopped green onions, salt, and black pepper. Mix well using a spatula until all ingredients are thoroughly combined and the mixture becomes slightly sticky.

Step 3

Prepare the cabbage leaves by blanching them in boiling water for 1 minute until pliable. Drain and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel.

Step 4

Set up a steamer over a pot of boiling water. Ensure that water level is below the steaming basket.

Step 5

Cut each cabbage leaf into a small circle, approximately 3-4 inches in diameter.

Step 6

Place a tablespoon of the pork and shrimp mixture onto the center of each cabbage circle.

Step 7

Fold the edges of the cabbage up, pressing gently, so it forms a small cup around the filling, leaving the top exposed.

Step 8

Arrange the wrapped dumplings in the steamer basket, making sure they do not touch each other.

Step 9

Steam the siumai for about 15-20 minutes or until the pork is cooked through and the filling is firm.

Step 10

Meanwhile, prepare a dipping sauce by mixing the rice vinegar with an additional tablespoon of soy sauce if desired.

Step 11

Remove the siumai from the steamer and serve hot with the dipping sauce on the side.
