Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground pork
  • 150 grams Shrimp, peeled, deveined, and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Grated ginger
  • 2 cloves Minced garlic
  • 3 tablespoons Chopped scallions
  • 12 large Cabbage leaves
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon White pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Chopped fresh cilantro
  • 12 pieces Sliced carrots for garnish

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, chopped shrimp, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, chopped scallions, salt, white pepper, and chopped cilantro. Mix thoroughly until well combined.

Step 2

Fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil. Add the cabbage leaves to the boiling water for about 1-2 minutes, just until softened, then immediately transfer them to an ice water bath to cool. This will help them become more pliable for wrapping.

Step 3

Pat the cabbage leaves dry with paper towels. Cut a small portion of the thick spine off the back of each leaf to make it flat.

Step 4

Place about 1-2 tablespoons of the pork and shrimp filling in the center of each cabbage leaf. Gather up the edges gently to form a basket shape, leaving the top open.

Step 5

Garnish each dumpling with a small slice of carrot for a colorful touch and to add traditional appeal.

Step 6

Prepare a bamboo steamer or a steamer insert over a wok or large saucepan filled with a few inches of water. Bring the water to a boil.

Step 7

Place the filled cabbage dumplings into the steamer basket, leaving enough space between each so they don't stick together.

Step 8

Cover and steam for about 10-12 minutes, until the filling is cooked through and firm to the touch.

Step 9

Remove from the steamer and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy this low-carb Siu Mai with soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
