Ingredients

  • 0.5 pound Ground pork
  • 12 large leaves Green cabbage
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 2 tablespoons Green onions
  • 1 Egg
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 cups Chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon Mirin (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine ground pork, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, chopped green onions, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until everything is well combined.

Step 2

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Meanwhile, carefully separate 12 large cabbage leaves and blanch them in the boiling water for 30 seconds until they are just soft enough to bend but still retain their bright green color.

Step 3

Drain the cabbage leaves and set them aside to cool. Pat them dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture once they are cool enough to handle.

Step 4

Lay a cabbage leaf flat and place about a tablespoon of the pork mixture in the center of the leaf. Fold the sides over the filling and roll up tightly like a burrito, securing the filling inside. Repeat with remaining cabbage leaves and pork mixture.

Step 5

In a large skillet, heat chicken broth over medium heat. Once the broth begins to simmer, add the cabbage-wrapped wontons in a single layer.

Step 6

Cover the skillet and steam the wontons for about 12-15 minutes until the pork filling is cooked through.

Step 7

If using mirin, add it to the broth during the last 2 minutes of cooking for added flavor.

Step 8

Serve the wontons warm, with the broth as a dipping sauce if desired.
