Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground turkey
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 0.5 cup Onion, finely chopped
  • 0.5 cup Bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 3 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1.5 tbsp Chili powder
  • 1 tsp Ground cumin
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 0.5 tsp Oregano
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 0.5 cup Low-sodium chicken broth
  • 0.25 cup Fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes, until the vegetables begin to soften.

Step 3

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 4

Add the ground turkey to the skillet. Use a spatula to break the meat apart into small pieces.

Step 5

Cook the turkey until it is no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes.

Step 6

Season the meat with chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine all the spices with the turkey.

Step 7

Add the tomato paste and chicken broth to the skillet. Mix until the tomato paste is fully incorporated into the meat and sauce forms.

Step 8

Reduce the heat to low and let the meat simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened and flavors melded together.

Step 9

Taste and adjust seasonings if necessary.

Step 10

Optionally, sprinkle fresh cilantro over the taco meat before serving.

Step 11

Serve with low-carb tortillas, lettuce wraps, or as a topping for a taco salad.
