Ingredients

  • 500 grams Cabbage
  • 50 grams Grated coconut
  • 2 tablespoons Coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Urad dal (split black gram)
  • 2 Dried red chilies
  • 10 leaves Curry leaves
  • 2 Green chilies
  • 0.5 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 50 milliliters Water

Directions

Step 1

Begin by removing the outer leaves of the cabbage and finely shredding it. Set aside.

Step 2

Heat the coconut oil in a large pan over medium heat.

Step 3

Add the mustard seeds to the pan. Once they begin to splutter, add the cumin seeds and urad dal. Stir for a minute until the urad dal starts to turn golden brown.

Step 4

Break the dried red chilies in half and add them to the pan along with the curry leaves. Stir for a few seconds until they become aromatic.

Step 5

Add the green chilies and sauté for another minute.

Step 6

Add the finely shredded cabbage to the pan. Stir well to mix with the spices.

Step 7

Pour in the water, add turmeric powder and salt. Mix everything together.

Step 8

Cover the pan and let the cabbage cook on medium heat for about 10 minutes or until it’s tender. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.

Step 9

Once the cabbage is cooked, remove the lid and add the grated coconut.

Step 10

Mix thoroughly and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes until the coconut is well combined with the cabbage.

Step 11

Turn off the heat and serve the Low Carb Cabbage Poriyal hot as a side dish.
