Ingredients

  • 1 cup Besan (Gram Flour)
  • 0.75 cup Water
  • 0.5 medium, finely chopped Onion
  • 1 finely chopped Green chili
  • 0.5 teaspoon, grated Ginger
  • 0.5 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 0.25 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons, finely chopped Coriander leaves
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Cooking oil

Directions

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, combine besan (gram flour) with the water. Whisk until you form a smooth batter without any lumps.

Step 2

Add the finely chopped onion, green chili, ginger, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander leaves, and salt to the batter. Mix well until all ingredients are well incorporated.

Step 3

Heat a non-stick skillet or tawa over medium heat and add a few drops of cooking oil to grease the surface.

Step 4

Pour a ladleful of batter onto the center of the skillet and spread it evenly in a circular motion to form a round pancake, about 6-7 inches in diameter.

Step 5

Drizzle a little oil around the edges and on the surface of the cheela.

Step 6

Cook for about 2-3 minutes or until the edges begin to lift, and then flip the cheela with a spatula.

Step 7

Cook the other side for another 2 minutes until it's golden brown and crisp.

Step 8

Remove the cheela from the skillet and repeat the process with the remaining batter.

Step 9

Serve the hot besan cheela with green chutney or yogurt on the side.
