Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 0.5 cup Onion
  • 2 cloves Garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 8 leaves Lettuce leaves (large and sturdy, such as romaine)
  • 0.5 cup Cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 0.5 cup Sour cream
  • 0.5 cup Salsa

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add olive oil.

Step 2

Finely chop the onion and mince the garlic cloves.

Step 3

Add onion and garlic to the skillet, and sauté until onion becomes translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 4

Increase the heat to medium-high, add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Use a spatula to break the beef into crumbles as it cooks.

Step 5

Once the beef is cooked through, drain the excess fat from the skillet.

Step 6

Add cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper to the beef. Stir to combine and let it cook for another 3 minutes for the flavors to meld.

Step 7

Remove the beef mixture from the heat and set aside.

Step 8

Take a large lettuce leaf and spread it out on a clean work surface.

Step 9

Place about 2 tablespoons of the beef mixture along the edge of the leaf. Top with about 1 tablespoon of shredded cheddar cheese.

Step 10

Roll the lettuce leaf tightly around the filling, starting from the edge with the filling, rolling toward the empty edge.

Step 11

Repeat the process until all the beef filling is used, making sure to create a tight roll each time.

Step 12

Serve the flautas immediately with sour cream and salsa on the side for dipping.
