Ingredients

  • 600 grams turnips
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 units garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Peel the turnips and cut them into 1-inch cubes similar to potato cubes.

Step 2

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt and the turnip cubes. Cook for about 5 minutes to parboil, then drain and set aside.

Step 3

Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the parboiled turnip cubes in a single layer. Sauté them for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally until they become golden brown and crispy.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to medium and add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.

Step 5

Stir in the red chili flakes, cumin, and paprika. Cook for another minute to let the spices become aromatic.

Step 6

Drizzle lemon juice over the turnips, add salt and black pepper, and toss to combine everything evenly.

Step 7

Remove from heat and stir in the fresh cilantro.

Step 8

Transfer to a serving dish and enjoy your Low Carb Batata Harra as a side dish or a light meal!
