Ingredients

  • 1 cup Butter (softened)
  • 2 cups Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup Packed light brown sugar
  • 4 units Large eggs
  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Chopped pecans
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter (for glaze)
  • 1 cup Packed light brown sugar (for glaze)
  • 0.25 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 0.5 cup Pecans (for topping, optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan or spray it with nonstick cooking spray.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 3

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix just until combined.

Step 5

Stir in the vanilla extract and chopped pecans.

Step 6

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Step 7

While the cake is baking, prepare the praline glaze. In a medium saucepan, melt 1/2 cup of butter over medium heat. Stir in 1 cup of packed light brown sugar and 1/4 cup of heavy cream.

Step 8

Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring constantly, and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and allow it to cool for 5 minutes.

Step 9

Whisk in the powdered sugar until smooth. If the glaze is too thick, add a small amount of heavy cream to thin it to your desired consistency.

Step 10

When the cake is finished baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Drizzle the warm glaze evenly over the cake, spreading gently with a spatula if needed.

Step 11

Sprinkle additional pecans on top for garnish, if desired. Let the glaze set for 15 minutes before serving.

Step 12

Slice and enjoy your Louisiana Pecan Praline Cake!
