Ingredients

  • 750 grams Potatoes
  • 300 grams Green cabbage
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 50 grams Unsalted butter
  • 50 milliliters Double cream
  • 100 grams Sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Chopped parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Peel the potatoes and cut them into chunks. Place them in a large pot of salted water and bring to a boil. Cook for 15-20 minutes until tender, then drain well.

Step 2

While the potatoes cook, finely slice the cabbage and the onion.

Step 3

Heat 25 grams of the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the cabbage and onion and sauté until soft and translucent, about 10 minutes. Set aside.

Step 4

Mash the cooked potatoes with the remaining 25 grams of butter and double cream. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Step 5

Fold the sautéed cabbage and onion into the mashed potatoes, mixing well to combine.

Step 6

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Lightly grease a baking dish and spread the mashed potato mixture evenly into it.

Step 7

Grate the cheddar cheese and sprinkle it evenly over the top of the dish.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown.

Step 9

Remove from the oven, allow to cool slightly, and garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Serve warm as a standalone dish or alongside roasted meats.
