  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 0.5 lb Ground pork
  • 1 Small green cabbage
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 1 small Onion
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Sesame oil
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp Paprika
  • 4 cups Water
  • 12 pieces Kitchen twine (optional, for tying bundles)

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of water to a boil.

Step 2

Carefully pull apart 12 large cabbage leaves from the head, being sure to avoid tearing them.

Step 3

Blanch the cabbage leaves in boiling water for 2-3 minutes until pliable but not mushy. Transfer to a bowl of cold water to stop the cooking process, then pat dry with a clean kitchen towel.

Finely mince the garlic and onion.

Step 5

In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, minced garlic, minced onion, breadcrumbs, soy sauce, sesame oil, egg, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix thoroughly with your hands or a spoon until well-incorporated.

Lay one cabbage leaf flat on a cutting board. Place about 2 tablespoons of the meat mixture onto the center of the leaf.

Fold the sides of the cabbage leaf over the meat, then roll it from the bottom to form a tight bundle. Repeat with the remaining leaves and meat mixture.

If desired, use small pieces of kitchen twine to tie each bundle to secure them during cooking. Alternatively, tuck the loose ends of the cabbage underneath each roll.

Place the bundles seam-side down in a steamer or a large skillet with a lid.

Add 4 cups of water to the skillet, making sure the bundles are not submerged. Cover and steam over medium heat for 15-20 minutes, until the meat is fully cooked and the bundles are tender.

Step 11

Carefully remove the bundles from the steamer or skillet. Remove the twine if used, and serve warm as a snack or appetizer.
