Ingredients

  • 6 pieces Roma tomatoes
  • 2 pieces Jalapeño peppers
  • 1 medium-sized Red onion
  • 2 pieces Garlic cloves
  • 0.5 cups Fresh cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Olive oil (optional, for milder flavor)

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the Roma tomatoes and jalapeños under cold water to clean them thoroughly.

Step 2

Dice the Roma tomatoes into small, even pieces and place them in a mixing bowl.

Step 3

Finely chop the jalapeños. For a spicier salsa, include the seeds. For a milder salsa, remove the seeds and membrane before chopping.

Step 4

Peel and finely dice the red onion. Add it to the bowl with the tomatoes and jalapeños.

Step 5

Mince the garlic cloves and add them to the mixture for a flavorful kick.

Step 6

Chop the fresh cilantro, stems and all, to measure 1/2 cup, and mix it in with the other ingredients.

Step 7

Add 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lime juice to the bowl. This will add acidity and brightness to the salsa.

Step 8

Sprinkle the 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper for seasoning. Adjust to taste if needed.

Step 9

If desired, stir in 1 teaspoon of olive oil to mellow out the flavors and add a slight richness.

Step 10

Gently stir all the ingredients until they are well combined.

Step 11

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the salsa sit for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

Step 12

Serve immediately with tortilla chips, or store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
