Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast
  • 1 cup Warm milk
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 pieces Large eggs (beaten)
  • 8 ounces Bacon (chopped into small pieces)
  • 1 medium Onion (finely diced)
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground black pepper
  • 1 piece Egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • 1 teaspoon Water (optional, for egg wash)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, mix warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the milk and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the melted butter, beaten eggs, and the frothy yeast mixture. Mix well until a dough begins to form.

Step 3

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Step 4

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 5

While the dough is rising, prepare the filling: In a skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crisp. Remove the bacon and set it aside, leaving a small amount of the rendered fat in the pan.

Step 6

In the same pan, sauté the diced onion until softened and translucent. Add the cooked bacon back to the pan, season with black pepper, and mix well. Allow the filling to cool to room temperature.

Step 7

After the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball.

Step 8

Flatten each dough ball into a small disk, place a spoonful of the bacon-onion filling in the center, and fold the dough around the filling, pinching the edges to seal. Place the buns seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Step 9

Cover the buns with a kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Step 10

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 11

Brush the tops of the buns with egg wash (made by beating 1 egg with 1 teaspoon of water).

Step 12

Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 13

Remove the buns from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm!
