Ingredients

  • 8 oz Elbow macaroni
  • 12 oz Lit'l Smokies sausages
  • 4 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Whole milk
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 2 cups Sharp cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • 1 tsp Ground mustard powder
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic powder
  • 0.75 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil (optional, for topping)

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook elbow macaroni according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 2

While the pasta is cooking, heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the Lit'l Smokies sausages and cook until browned on all sides, about 5–7 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 3

In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook, stirring constantly, for about 1 minute to create a roux.

Step 4

Slowly pour in the whole milk and heavy cream, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Cook over medium heat until the mixture thickens, about 3–4 minutes.

Step 5

Gradually stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix until the cheeses are fully melted and the sauce is smooth.

Step 6

Add the ground mustard powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to the cheese sauce. Stir well to combine.

Step 7

Fold the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce, ensuring every piece is coated. Gently stir in the cooked Lit'l Smokies sausages.

Step 8

If desired, transfer the mac and cheese mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs and olive oil together, then sprinkle evenly over the top for a crunchy topping.

Step 9

Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbling. Serve immediately and enjoy!
