Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the linguine according to the package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water before draining the pasta, then set both aside.
In a large skillet, melt the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant and lightly golden, being careful not to burn it.
